Sing and Donia, a couple from Hong Kong,
first visited Boquete in May 2004, not knowing that this would bring about life
changes in their retirement. They instantly fell in love with the mountainous
landscapes, the lush vegetation, the birds, the clean air, the cooler climate
and the simplicity of life close to nature.
During their first visit, an unexpected
opportunity arose for them to acquire a high altitude coffee estate (finca),
with a friend of theirs offering to look after its operations. Finca Villa Donia was born.
Sing and Donia returned to Hong Kong, but
they came back to Boquete often. It was not until 2008 that they decided to
take over the day-to-day management of the estate. Their goals are to
continuously improve the infrastructure of the estate, quality of their beans,
and the working conditions of the N'gobe Indians who hand pick the coffee
cherries during the harvesting season.
